Plant Location Notes Seasonally dry llanos fields on the west side of Volcan Chiriqui ca. 4 mi. N. E. of El Hato on the road to Cerro Punta; elev. ca. 1900-2000 m.
Plant Description Notes Erect compactly branched shrubs ca. 1-2 m. tall. Petals deep magenta, narrowly obovate or elliptic tapering to an oblique apex. Antepetalous anthers bright red; their appendages likewise but yellow apically. Antesepalous anthers yellow suffused with red on lower portion of abaxial side; their appendage yellow. Members of the genus Bombus were observed pollinating numerous flowers.
