Plant Location Notes Heggies Rock, 3.8 miles east from Columbia Junior High School along Georgia Rte. 232 and County Road 2122. 33 32' 30" N, 82 15' 05" W, Appling Quadrangle, 7.5'.
Plant Description Notes Plants amphibious, cormless, carpet forming, often bearing distal, adventitious plantlets. Stem prostrate, centrally-furrowed, 3-35 mm. long, 0.5 - 1.5 mm. in diameter, often curled or arching downward; roots not dichotomously forked, usually forming three linear rows along each side of the median furrow: two slender, lateral roots and one stout (often coiled), basal root associated with each leaf; leaves few (4-8), distichous, awl-shaped, 2-4 cm. long, 1 mm. broad and equitant at base; peripheral strands absent, stomata present along upper third of leaf; ligule less than 1 mm. long; megaspores few (4-20), 275-370 mu in diameter, trilete, low-tuberculate, brown; microsporangia elliptic-reniform, up to 1 mm. long; microspores numerous, 26-33 mu long, monolete, spinulose, brown.
