Plant Location Notes Lower slopes of Volcan Santa Maria de Jesus along highway to Quetzaltenango near Sta. Maria de Jesus. Elev. 4300'. Dense undergrowth on steep slope, distinct elevational layer.
Plant Description Notes Plant 5.5 m, musoid. Petiole 20 cm, blade 250 cm long by 66 cm; upper surface green with lighter midrib, lower green with light green, marron-tinged midrib. Inflorescence pendulous, 55 cm long; penduncle pinkish red, villous to woolly. Rachis flexuose, red; branch bracts rotate, 16.5 cm long, light red inside, deep red outside, glabrous, with revolute margins. Floral bracts white, free sepal below; perianth dull orange, fused sepals red along margins, slightly puberulous. Ovary light-white green, pedicel yellowish-orange.
